What are some essential supplements and nutrition tips for a bodybuilding beginner?
Posted on July 5, 2009, under nutrition supplements.
I am 19 years old, slim, and want to start lifting. I have read that about 1-2 grams of protein/pound of body weight is ideal, but what kind of protein? Other suggestions?
Great post! I totally understand how you feel. I’m also trying to lose weight and I found this great product which is working for me (it’s all 100% natural - a colon cleanse that was really gentle on my body. I feel so good and I lost 15 pounds). You can check the website at
http://less-weight.us , I had a free trial and paid less than $5.00 shipping and handling. Best of luck!

Can you lose weight while constipated?
Posted on July 5, 2009, under can t lose weight.
I am eating very little due to severe constipation. Am I losing weight during this time? Does constipation effect weight loss at all? I am NOT doing this on purpose, so please no lectures. Thank you.
You sure can!
You don’t lose weight by pooping, you lose it through respiration.
Simply, your body burns glucose to produce energy which converts to oxygen and is expelled from the body.
So breathing out is actually getting rid of the calories, not using the bathroom.
The reason laxatives (mainly laxative abuse) aids weightloss is because they cause your body to expel food before all the calories, etc. have been absorbed.
All this aside, constipation makes you feel yuck, so try drinking lots of water to try and flush it out. Some fibre supplements might be a good idea too.
Don’t forget to exercise :D!
How many calories do I need to intake to gain weight?
Posted on July 5, 2009, under how many calories in.
I am 19 years old and I weight 135-140lbs. My height is 5′11. I average 2500-3000+ calories per day. I really need to gain weight over the summer. How many calories should I be intakeing to gain weight?
One pound is the equivalent of 3500 calories above the calories you need to maintain weight. So, if you maintain your weight on a diet of 3000 calories, you would need to consume 3500 calories for one week to gain a pound. Try drinking Ensure or Boost drinks and eating foods that are denser in calories such as nuts, nutritional bars (such as Kashi Go Lean or Clif), avocado, granola, whole milk products, cheese, bagels, peanut butter, trail mix and an occasional sweet such as cheesecake, pie, etc. You might want to talk to your doctor about your weight gain goals, though, and ask for a referral to a nutritionist.
I hope this helped, and good luck
How much should a 5 foot 2 inches person weigh?
Posted on July 5, 2009, under how much should i weigh.
If a person should weigh that much, I weigh about 165 (obese? I know), so any ideas on how to lose weight?
Can I lose weight by NOT exercising, but BY EATING less?
Can I weigh the same of an average person by not eating much and NOT exercising?
Depending on your body type, anywhere from 110-140 would be OK.
You lose weight by burning more calories than you take in, so start keeping a food journal, and eating healthier. You DO need to exercise as well, even if it’s just taking a walk in the evenings,or taking the stairs instead of the elevator…anything will help.
For a 5′2" female with a light activity level (you don’t mention your age…I’ll assume you’re about 18) you need 2215 calories per day to maintain your current weight. To lose 1 pound per week (the most most doctors reccomend you lose per week is 1-2 pounds, unless you are on a specific weight lose plan drawn up by a physician and dietician) you need to cut your calories per day to about 1715. Of these, about 1500 calories are needed to meet your body’s basic energy needs. Track what you eat, but DO NOT compensate for not exercising by eating less than you need to. It’s NOT healthy and it will make you feel BAD. If your body does not get all the fuel it needs, it will think it is starving and will go into survival mode, storing more fat. Plus, you’ll be tired and lethargic and generally grumpy. And hungry!
Don’t go nuts. Eat when you’re hungry, but don’t overeat. The goal is to not be hungry anymore, not to be FULL. Drink lots of water…at least 8 glasses per day. If you drink sodas, stop. Even the diet ones, although they contain no calories, will make you retain water and should be consumed sparingly. If you drink alcohol, cut down or quit entirely. One shot of liquor has 100 calories and absolutely NO nutritional value. Not really worth it.
Exercise as much as you can…this doesn’t mean you have to run 5 miles a day or join a gym (although that would speed your results), but walking instead of driving or taking the stairs instead of the elevator are two easy ways of getting in your exercise. GOOD LUCK!
